Case 01
Air Canada, economy, one way
Six tickets on the same booking; parents traveling with children. At $2,000 per seat in cash, the group would have spent $12,000 if they booked the marketed cash fare. Instead, they used 300,000 Aeroplan points transferred from Amex and paid $300 in fees. Aeroplan's transatlantic economy pricing is distance-based, making this a repeatable, predictable redemption.

Emirates, economy, round trip
Economy redemptions usually aren't headline-grabbing, but you can still obtain meaningful value. Most people with a Chase Sapphire Reserve or Amex Platinum already have enough points sitting in their account for this trip.
Case 03
JAL, business class, one way
JAL releases its award calendar 360 days out, and the best seats disappear within hours of opening. Book at midnight on day one or miss it. At 60,000 American AAdvantage miles one-way, this is one of the highest-value transpacific redemptions available.

I've personally redeemed millions of points across dozens of programs for my own travel, and I now help a small number of clients do the same.
I'm not a travel agent. I don't hold airline or hotel accreditation. I don't earn commissions on your flights or hotels. You pay me directly for strategic advice. I do earn referral income on some credit cards I recommend, which I disclose at the point of recommendation.
Pointwise Travel is intentionally small. I work with a limited number of clients at a time because doing this well means actually paying attention.
